The Miami Dolphins recently released their star cornerback Xavien Howard to clear some cap space ahead of free agency. Howard still hasn’t found his new home yet, but he recently hinted at what kind of team he is looking to join in 2024.
During a recent interview with the Houston Chronicle, the free agent CB opened up about his future in the league. He claimed that he is willing to take a pay cut to join a playoff contender.
I'd rather take a pay cut to go to a team that's going to go further in the playoffs. I got my money and stuff like that. I'm to the point, like, 'How much money do you really need?' Xavien Howard said
His statement came while talking about the possibility of him joining the Houston Texans. Howard is a Houston native, who played high school ball at Wheatley and attended Baylor University. In the interview, he claimed that he would love to join the Texans, a team that surprised a lot of people last season by winning a playoff game under their rookie QB C.J. Stroud.

So, after three playoff appearances and zero playoff victories in the last 8 seasons with the Dolphins, Howard is now looking to win some playoff games. He believes the Texans would be great for him. As for the Texans, they recently added corners Jeff Okudah and C.J. Henderson and already have some great depth in that position.
So, they might not really be in the market for a defensive back. But, if they are looking for one, Howard is willing to give them a hometown discount.
In the interview, Howard made it clear that he is not looking for a massive deal. Instead, he is only focused on signing with a team that is contending for the Super Bowl title.
My goal is always to try to win a Super Bowl. Don't let the money get in the way of winning a Super Bowl. Some people get paid, and some people win a Super Bowl. Some people do both. You do both, you're different. I want to be different. I want to win a Super Bowl now. I already got paid, so now (a Super Bowl) is what I'm looking forward to. Xavien Howard said

The 31-year-old has been in the league for eight years and spent his entire career in Miami. During that time, Howard registered four Pro Bowl seasons and was named to the first-team All-Pro squad once. And now, he is chasing rings instead of money.
